Voting in Cardston County

Acceptable Identification for Voting

To vote in Cardston County, you must provide acceptable identification (ID) at your voting station.


Option 1: If your name appears on the Permanent Electors Register

Provide one piece of government-issued photo ID that shows your name.
Examples:

  • Alberta Driver’s Licence

  • Alberta Identification Card

  • Passport


Option 2: If you are not on the Permanent Electors Register

—or you are, but do not have government-issued photo ID—
you must complete Form 13 Elector Register and provide one of the following:

  • One piece of government-issued photo ID showing your name and residential address, OR

  • One piece of acceptable ID from the list below that shows your name and current address, OR

  • One piece of acceptable ID from the list below that shows your name, plus a voucher that meets requirements and completes Form 14 Statement of Voucher.


Acceptable Types of ID

Government-issued documents

  • Alberta driver’s licence or ID card

  • Fishing, trapping, or hunting licence

  • Government cheque or cheque stub

  • Income/property tax assessment notice

  • Letter from a public curator, public guardian, or public trustee

  • Statement of government benefits (e.g., employment insurance, old-age security, social assistance, disability support, child tax benefits)

Other documents

  • Bank/credit card statement or personal cheque

  • Insurance policy or coverage card

  • Pension plan statement of benefits or contributions

  • Residential lease or mortgage statement

  • Utility bill (telephone, hydro, gas, water, TV, etc.)

  • Vehicle ownership, registration, or insurance certificate

  • Any other identification authorized by the Chief Electoral Officer showing name and address

School, college, or university documents

  • Correspondence issued by a school, college, or university


Attestation Form

Form 32 – Attestation of Identity and Address may be used if you:

  • Reside in a supportive living or long-term care facility

  • Reside in student housing on campus

  • Are an inmate

  • Receive services from a shelter or community support centre

  • Rent your primary residence


Vouching

If you do not have ID showing your current address, another eligible voter may vouch for you.

The voucher must:

  • Be eligible to vote

  • Have acceptable ID

  • Be listed on the Permanent Electors Register

  • Complete Form 14 Statement of Voucher at the voting station

Notes:

  • A voucher may only vouch for people who live in the same household.

  • Scrutineers cannot vouch.
