Every day, the STARS Emergency Link Centre monitors thousands of remote sites, and in doing so, improves emergency preparedness for people living and working in remote locations. In the event of an emergency at a remote site, one call connects you to a STARS Communication Specialist who immediately begins to coordinate a medical response.
STARS works in partnership with a range of agencies and first responders to ensure that the most appropriate response is activated. During a medical or trauma incident, an on-call STARS Referral Emergency Physician can be consulted to determine the best mode of transport for the patient, including locating the most appropriate receiving hospital.
Using a neighbours-helping-neighbours philosophy, the STARS site registration program allows for an awareness of nearby sites that may have resources available to provide immediate medical support until first responders are able to arrive on scene. The STARS Communication Specialist coordinates all requests for assistance from surrounding sites.
The STARS Emergency Link Centre was established to meet the needs of industry working in remote locations. The resulting site registration service provided by the ELC facilitates rapid emergency medical response and transport coordination in the event of an emergency in a remote location. Today, the site registration program is utilized by the oil and gas, power/electrical, forestry, mining, recreation, and movie production industries.
Although the STARS Emergency Link Centre was designed for industry working in remote locations, individuals living in remote and rural locations are able to register their properties with the site registration program free of charge. You can register your property with STARS through one of the following methods:
- Call the STARS Emergency Link Centre 24/7 at 1-888-888-4567.
- Complete the Site Registration Form and email to industry@stars.ca
Cardston County contributes annually to STARS Air Ambulance, as the service is essential to emergency response in remote and rural areas. We recommend that our residents also consider donating to STARS, and that our residents living in remote and rural areas register their properties with the STARS Emergency Link Centre. There are, however, some important points to remember about the site registration program:
- There is no guarantee that STARS will fly to your location. This is a physician-led decision based on the severity of illness/injuries, weather, and aircraft availability.
- This is not a replacement for 911 or on-site medical services.
