Cardston County Completes Solar Energy Project at Airport Facility

CARDSTON COUNTY, AB — Cardston County is pleased to announce the completion of a new solar electricity generation project at the Cardston County Airport. The installation will generate clean, renewable electricity to support municipal operations while helping reduce long-term energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

The ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) system is expected to offset a portion of the electricity consumed at the airport facility, supporting Cardston County's commitment to responsible infrastructure management and fiscal stewardship. The project represents an investment in sustainable municipal operations that will provide environmental and financial benefits for years to come.

"This project reflects Council's commitment to making thoughtful investments that deliver long-term value for our residents," said Reeve Randy Bullock. "By generating electricity locally, we are helping reduce operating costs while demonstrating practical leadership in sustainable municipal infrastructure."

The solar installation aligns with Cardston County's efforts to improve the efficiency and resilience of municipal assets while supporting Alberta's growing renewable energy sector.

"Projects like this help ensure municipal facilities operate as efficiently as possible while reducing long-term costs for taxpayers," said CAO Murray Millward. "We are pleased to see this investment delivering both environmental and financial benefits for the community."

The project was supported through the Municipal Electricity Generation Program and contributes to local and provincial efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase the use of renewable energy sources.

The Municipal Climate Change Action Centre is a partnership of Alberta Municipalities, the Rural Municipalities of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta. Funding for the Municipal Electricity Generation Program was provided by the Government of Alberta.
