Dust Control

Cardston County provides an annual dust control program where individuals may apply for dust control to be applied in front of their residences and businesses. We advertise the program annually in local newspapers, our website, and social media with the specific application costs and deadlines. Road Maintenance

We divide our County into 7 Grader Divisions that match the boundaries of our Councilor Divisions. Each division has one grader operator who is responsible for the road maintenance in that area, and we have one "floater" who is able to help out throughout the County depending on where additional help is needed.

Our road maintenance focuses on municipal roads to ensure that we are providing a safe transportation network for the public. Our attention is focused on roads with a high traffic volume and ones that require critical maintenance to minimize the need for major repairs. We try our best to do road maintenance on private roads depending on our schedule at the time.

Our municipal roads are divided into the following five priorities that determine how often they receive road maintenance:

  1. Primary Roads
  2. Secondary Roads
  3. Third Priority Roads
  4. Fairweather Roads (Twice a year, in the spring and fall, if possible)
  5. Private Roads (By request, when all other priorities are complete)

Residents may request road maintenance on a municipal or private road by contacting our office or filling out the form below. Road maintenance requests that we receive will be forwarded to our public works department supervisor, who will assess the condition of the road and make a recommendation to the grader operator in that area. Residents requesting road maintenance on a private road will be required to sign a waiver prior to receiving any work from the County. The waiver form can be found here.

Road Construction

We review the need for municipal road construction and upgrade on an annual basis as part of our budget process. When considering whether a municipal road needs to be constructed or upgraded, we consider safety, road conditions, traffic impact, and future maintenance costs. Municipal road construction and upgrade projects can be found in our capital budget.

Cardston County does not constuct or provide funding towards the construction of private roads for individual landowners. However, individual landowners without existing municipal road access may submit a request for a financial or in-kind contribution towards the construction or upgrade of a municipal road used to access an isolated parcel.

Cardston County may contribute up to a maximum of $2,000 per mile for the construction or ugprade provided that the road will be built on a municipal road allowance, will be a public road, and will be used to access an isolated parcel that is occupied year-round.

Cardston County will provide individual landowners with one approach per quarter section. Any additional approaches are the responsibility of individual landowners.

Snow Removal

Our snow removal program follows the same principles as our road maintenance program. We divide our County into 7 Grader Divisions that match the boundaries of our Councilor Divisions. Each division has one grader operator who is responsible for snow removal in that area, and we have one "floater" who is able to help out throughout the County depending on where additional help is needed.

We prioritize snow removal on our primary roads, with a particular focus given to school bus routes. Our snow plowing priorities are as follows:
  1. Primary Roads
  2. School Bus Routes
  3. Non-School Bus Routes
  4. Private Roads (By request, when all other priorities are complete)

We would like to remind residents that when winter weather conditions are extreme, such as poor visibility or blowing snow, our grader operators may not be completeing their snow removal as scheduled. The safety of our employees is paramount.
